With the challenge of making the lepers self-reliant and giving basic education to their children, an American priest comes to an obscure village near Suri, Rampurhat, West Bengal to set up a home. However even years after the heinous act of burning alive Christian missionary Graham Steines, and despite the marvelous work done by Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity, nothing seemed to have changed much - neither the prejudice against the disease, nor the State's one-eyed stand towards religious conversions. Will Father Peter Gomes be successful in his mission or the same fate awaited him like his predecessor ?

This is a short story. Unpublished and very rough. It follows the memories of an old man reflecting on his heartfelt, painful life. Memories are sometimes all that we are left with and this man remembers everything vividly. Based in South Korea during the Korean War, this story brought tears to my eyes while writing. I hope you like it. (Takes about 15 minutes to read).

The purpose of this short story is to elucidate the true effects of leprosy and the relationships it tears apart... If you or someone you know has leprosy, call for support. It is a serious illness, and it is NOT to be joked about by moronic swine on the internet.

"Your beautiful. Really beautiful." "Thats a pointless comment seeming as though you haven't even met me." "But I'm looking at you now. Your beautiful." "Compared to?" He goes to speak, but she beats him to it. "You know, that's so biased of you. I might be a really ugly person deep down. I might be the worst person you'll ever meet." He scoffs. "That option is ruled out, because I think I already like you." She shrugs. "Also very biased of you to say, we haven't even met properly." "Well, let's meet. I'm Liam, but you can call me Biased." She bites back a smile bubbling below the surface. "I'm Violet, but you can call me The Worst Person You'll Ever Meet." "Well, Worst Person I'll Ever Meet, care to walk with me? I think you'll find I'm not as Biased as you may think." She shrugs again. "Well, sorry Biased But Not Really Biased, but I really am The Worst Person You'll Ever Meet." He counters, "I like bad people." "Cheesy." ••• 15 year old Violet loses her mother to leprosy, and struggles to come to terms with her loss as she continues day to day life without her. As everything seems to slow down, and become harder to bear, because everything is a reminder of her Mum, Violet takes her steps slowly, and slowly steps into Luke. Will a charming, sweet boy fix everything? Violet is hesitant to open up to him. Life doesn't slow down for Violet, and as she tries to keep up with her life, while also bearing the loss of her Mum, she keeps failing and having to pick herself up. If only Violet could let Luke in, he could hold her up, until she is able to release the pain and hold herself up...

She tightly held my hand. “Please, I want to see my baby.” I stopped and sit beside her bed. “You know that it’s the best for her.” She withdrawn her deformed hand and slowly turned her back on me. I sighed and walked away. I was used to this but each time it never failed to break my heart. I reached the nurse’s room and pulled the folder labeled “Year of Birth: 1941, Birthplace: Leper Colony. I silently prayed for the cure and miracle to happen as I noted in the status of the paper I was holding “For adoption”.

Year 1174, a boy at age thirteen is suddenly thrust into power upon the death of his father, King Amalric. He inherits a kingdom at war--the Kingdom of Jerusalem. However, he possesses a secret. He is dying of leprosy. Knowing he could be cast out of society forever, and knowing even if he remained king, he would suffer much and die young, King Baldwin IV determines to rule to the best of his ability although he often faces impossible odds with his inexperience and illness, but he refuses to give up. This is a collection of poetry and short stories based on the real life of King Baldwin IV. To read the series I'm writing based on him, go to my website under my pen name, Serafia Cross, at www.serafiacross.com, and you will find the series, 'The Last King of Legends' there. Though I try to keep as close to the truth as possible in the events of Baldwin's life, at times I exercise creative license and explore the 'what ifs'. I hope you enjoy them! Thank you!

What if you wake up one morning and you find yourself in the court of King Balduin IV, the Leper King? Note: The story is based more on the film Kingdom of Heaven (2005) than the real history, however it does not follow the filmscript completely and in some cases I used the historical facts, found in Bernard Hamilton's book about King Balduin IV (The Leper King and his heirs, 2005). Furthermore, some events and scenes were created by my fantasy only. I hope you will enjoy my story!
