Enjolras knows it's the end of the line when his friends have all been killed and he alone remains, standing defiant against the National Guard. He was prepared to die for his friends and countrymen. Of course, he was joined by Grantaire in his last moments, holding his hand as they were both shot. Enjolras knew he was dead. That was, until he wakes up in a bed that is not his, in a room that is not his, and in a time period that is definitely not his. His old friends are alive and well, but Enjolras seems to be the only one who remembers their failed revolution. Or: Enjolras is shot at the barricades on that day in 1832, but wakes up in the future with no memorizes of a life there.

Due to budget cuts at the university, Enjolras and his corral group are forced to rent a new research vessel to take them out to an isolated atoll. But how will he ever survive 5 months on a boat with that one crew member who refuses to leave him alone and also smokes way too much.

"I-" Enjolras' face is a mask of genuine confusion. It's captivating. Grantaire turns away. He can't do this. He had prepared for the disaster that would be the "Why Are Meetings In a Place With an Open bar a Bad Idea" discussion. He wasn't, <i>wasn't</i> prepared for <i>this.</i> There's a reason Grantaire doesn't go to the Les Amis meetings anymore. His abstinence is only part of it. ――― I needed a positive character growth for Grantaire. With this oneshot, I'm giving it to him. This is a meant as a study of "what would have to happen to set R on a better life path" and you can see I have a lot of feelings on the matter. Not only the alcohol addiction stands in Grantaire's way of making something of his life - his view of the world, his obsession with Enj and his own struggles with mental health are also important factors. Grantaire's life changes when his eyes met the brightest star in all of Paris. Just when things start to feel dark, Enjolras steps into Grantaire's little spark of light that is left. He makes Grantaire believe in things he never believed in before. He gives R a safe space. It's Enjolras who is saving Grantaire... But he doesn't know about the sceptic's feelings about him... until now.

August 1832. Paris, France. Pontmercy and all the others are dead, except for Enjolras and Grantaire. Grantaire gave up and left the barricade early, and Enjolras was wearing Valjean's army uniform, giving him camouflage. Enjolras has been dealing with survivor's guilt.

Grantaire doesn't really know when he fell for the man who hated him, but somewhere along the line, the boundaries of friendship and relationships got mixed, and now he is at a loss. "He's beautiful, right?" Combeferre winced. He looked at Grantaire, who was still looking somewhere in the void. Even so, he could see his eyes glitter with something he hadn't seen before. Confusion? Sadness? Loneliness? He didn't like the look. He reminded him too much of himself. This is how he looked every time he looked in the mirror and thought of Enjolras. Combeferre suddenly laughed. His gorgeous laugh echoed through the silence. He shook his head, dropped a piece of the cigarette to the ground, stepped on it, and grab another one. "How long?"
