Lewis, Cleo, Emma, Rikki, Zane and Ash are all beginning their final year of high school. Charlotte is gone, and everyone seems happy. Well, at least for the most part. The girls' big secret is a major part of all of their lives now, but none of them realised how much it was all taking a toll on Lewis. One night, Lewis heads to Mako Island to do some experiments and tests, still desperate for answers; and his life changes forever. Lewis should have known it was a terrible idea to go to Mako Island alone on the night of a full moon.

It could definitely be said that Cleo, Rikki, Emma and Bella have overcome the storm. Their friendship is now stronger and they've done so many things together. But just as summertime is in full swing, an unexpected cloud pops up. Charlotte returns to the coast. After having left out of shame from her defeat, Cleo thought she would be free from Charlotte for good. Charlotte promises that she has turned over a new leaf and is simply visiting the town before going off to college in the fall. But of course, Charlotte actually wants revenge, at any cost. Having been researching Mako Island in the year she's been gone, she is determined to regain her mermaid powers. When she discovers the moon pool is damaged (see season 3 finale), Charlotte makes an alliance with an old foe of the mermaids to regain her tail and defeat them. Scandalous, I know. But unlike the original writers, I am absolutely unbothered by the revolutionary idea of letting them be a couple. It's 20gayteen-oh wait, no, 20 gayforever-and I am not afraid.

Rikki just wanted to get her head in order, so much had happened and she needed some time alone. Time to think. She followed the familiar path across the island, moving on foot towards where she knew the land entrance was to the moon pool. So lost in her thoughts, she was, that she didn't see the slippery patch of grass and fell forwards. It brought her out of her thoughts and she expected to hit the ground, only to feel a falling sensation, as she slid down a tunnel much alike the one Cleo had all those months ago.
