When a virus kills 90% of America's children and gives the remaining 10% supernatural abilities, all hell breaks loose. All under 18 is sent to rehabilitation camps to work and suppress their abilities. But some are too powerful to be controlled... Callie Gardner has spent the last six years of her life confined to the grounds of the Thurmond, carrying a secret so explosive that to bring it to light would be to write her own obituary. She is an Orange, and all Oranges are supposed to be dead with the Reds. When she finally escapes camp and finds herself on her own in the wilderness of West Virginia, she runs in to Liam, Chubs, and Zu, fellow teens on the run from the corrupt government. Together, they run from bounty hunters, rummage for food, and try to find sanctuary in East River, all while becoming family along the way. (This is just a fun little play on the Darkest Minds series :). It has the same premise and characters (Except for the original protagonist and other minor original characters), but the events are different and so are some elements of the plot. Enjoy!

I never quite understood death, not even when over half of my class died from IAAN, and most adults began to hold us at arms length. But when my brother died, death had become a constant companion. I remember when my parents found him too. I had been woken up first because my room was at the beginning of the hall. I had already gotten out of bed when I heard their loud weeping. My parents said I didn't have to go to school that day, but I wish I had gone, then maybe I wouldn't have been subjected to their grief and anger. That night as my parents tucked me into bed and my mother gave me an extra long hug, my father only had one thing to say, "It should have been you."

As I have become obsessed(more like re-obssesed) with this series and had a lot of idea's for one shots I could write about The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. I've already written two in my other book/another miscellaneous work of mostly crap so I'll include them here as well. I have literally no plan whatsoever for this so it could go from AWWW to OH SHI-. Anyway I'll try to update as often as possible(she says already knowing that she's probably gonna update once a month) and if you have please share them with me so I can possibly write a one shot. Also SPOILERS! And one last thing if you want a one shot written about a certain scene or couple ALSO TELL ME! DON'T BE SHY! Carter O'Daniel is a part of the 2% of children ages 8-13 to survive IAAN, a strange disease that causes these children to develop abilities. But Carter is Different. She's more. The stakes are high as more and more children look to her for safety. She fears she will not be able to keep them safe from herself, much less the rest of the cruel world.
