At age sixteen everyone in Serine gets a surgery to find out who their partner for life is. The procedure consists of doctors retrieving a paper like tissue with a name on it from inside the patients heart. A week later the pair meets and spends the rest of their life together, no questions asked. But when young Jessie Doyle undergoes the surgery, the name of the person she is suppose to fall in love with is not all that is found. The doctors found another tissue with a completely different message for Jessie. To top it off, Jessie may have growing feelings for another man.
