"The Reality of the Poor Man"** is a 40-stanza narrative poem told through the daily life of a father living in poverty. Each stanza moves through a different facet of his experience - waking before dawn, worn-out shoes, leaking roofs, hunger, his wife's quiet sacrifices, his children's unanswered questions, rejection, illness, aging, and small moments of joy and kindness.
