When I was eight years old, I thought my brother was the coolest person in the world an' I wanted to be just like him. See, my brother was gonna' be a soldier. He was going to save the world. At eight years old, it doesn't get much cooler. This short story is a period piece told from the perspective of a little boy as he wrestles with broken promises and the reality of what it means when his elder brother goes off to war.
