I only had one thing on my mind that summer. It was 2009 and I was a sophomore in high school. I would be at camp for two weeks - two glorious, family-free weeks - but it only took me a day to figure out that even though I loved every aspect, there was only one thing that was making my feet lift off the ground. This year was going to be different, and I was going to make it so. It was a ranch camp that I attended, which meant smelly barns and well-water and tasks involving shoveling horse poop, but I had been going since the summer before seventh grade and couldn't imagine doing anything different. In the summer of '09, though, everything took a giant twist in the form of a blonde-haired, sixteen-year-old boy who had come from Ireland to attend my camp. His name was Niall Horan.

Laurel dies on a Monday, but it isn't all over yet. She wakes up in Heaven and quickly realizes it isn't all angels and clouds and paradise. Before she can make it to the real Heaven, Laurel must Come to Terms and stop Lingering. Laurel has no idea what this means when she first arrives, but is soon thrust into a world of many other teens dealing with their own early deaths. They have to release all of their emotions before they reach the real goal: the life of paradise in Heaven. But, Laurel is different. She can't stop Lingering. She can't stop thinking about her past life on Earth and how she died. Everyone else is letting go, why can't she? Her Lingering is only causing the family she left behind pain and it may be hurting someone else too. Is it possible Laurel wasn't meant to die? Everyone has a Destiny, but Laurel may have taken someone else's.

Like a green leaf, enjoy while you are still in this world. Like a writer, be productive and be innovative as long as you can. When the leaf turns yellow and starts to fall from the trees, you will never enjoy the amazement of play, the power of your mind, and the wonders of healing. Be cautious to the words that you have spoken. Be strong when the mountains of chaos blocks your way. Be flexible if you think that will be the surest way to avoid conflicts. Words from the prolific and creative writers are powerful than swords. No matter what happens, learn from the writer's experience, read their works from the heart and reflect the challenge that is applicable to your life.
