Estrèm- nimistä maata hallitsevat maagit, joiden valta ulottuu kaikkiin maan kolkkiin. He keräävät oppilaita ympäri maata ja vievät heidät koulutettaviksi omiin kaupunkeihinsa. Maagit vievät mukanaan myös Irena - nimisen 6-vuotiaan tytön, jolla on uskomattomat tiedot ja taidot demoneista, mutta ei paljoakaan taitoja magian suhteen. Irenan täyttäessä kolmetoista vuotta korkea-arvoinen maagi Tom Daiveaun ottaa Irenan omaksi oppilaakseen. Maagi on huomannut Irenassa piilevät erikoiskyvyt, ja lähettää tämän vaaralliselle tehtävälle varastamaan Lokhin maljaa. Irenan tarinan idea periaatteessaan. Tuosta ekasta versiosta on olemassa kaksikin kirjaa, ja nyt vähän aikaa sitten rupesin kirjoittamaan tätä tarinaa uudestaan, sillä rakastan sitä, mutta myönnän, että se oli melko surkea.
