Marco is deaf. He has been ever since the age of six when his abusive father made him so after knocking him unconscious on the brick wall of the old house they lived in. Marco gets one meal a month of 2 pieces of mouldy stale bread(if he was lucky) so naturally he was extremely underweight and ill-looking. He was unable to learn sighnlanguage and never learned to read or write, meaning he had no way of communicating other than lip reading and trying to speak by talking and hoping that sound comes out. When he gets his Hogwarts letter he is unable to read it and therefore never goes. It goes on like this until 5th year, when a professor is sent to get him and he is able to have a life where he doesn't get starved and abused.
