This book was written for both non‑native and native speakers of English. If you're a native speaker, you'll get a clear look into what actually goes through the mind of someone learning English as a second language. Topics include some of the biggest challenges ESL students face, such as: How To Learn English Fast How To Sound Like a Native Speaker How To Improve Your Vocabulary I Can Read, Write, and Understand English, But I Can't Speak It You Speak Too Fast! My English is Poor Writing this book is one of the scariest decisions I've ever done. I did even ask myself, "Why are you doing this? Why do you have to spend so much time contributing your thoughts and words? Why do you have to spend days and sleepless nights and months crafting this book, improving it, editing it? Why?" Because I CARE! I can't help but F***ING care! I am seeing ESL students-from the richest to the least privileged-who have trouble with English, and they're getting worse. To help, I wonder if I could share a bit of my story.

These poems are postcards from a body I only sometimes live in. Sometimes I floated above myself. Sometimes I disappeared. This is what remains: flickers, fog, echoes of feelings I couldn't name. A record of the days I smiled through static, the nights I folded into dreams to escape the noise. These are not memories, they're impressions. Not stories, but shadows of who I was, or maybe still am.

I'm screaming, pounding on horizontal metal bars, thrashing around. My mind flickers with pictures of my father, memories. His infectious happiness and belly laughter. They surround me, swallow me whole. "Love you now and forever girls." he would always say. But then the slide show of my memories is falling through a crack in the cement jail cell I'm stuck in. It's like every waking moment of my life is being sucked away, pulled from me, held at a distance. "Tess!!!" Nate shakes me awake. I'm engulfed in his blue bed spread. "It's just a dream String Bean, wake up. I'm right here. I'm not leaving." He's towering over my sleeping body and whispering things I can barely understand. "Come on Tessa wake up." he pushes a hand through my hair, over and over again. I carefully slide my eyes open to reveal his concerned expression close to my face in the darkness. My mind rattles and I can't speak so I grab his hand, the one that's tangled up in my hair. He immediately sighs and interlocks his fingers around mine. "It was just a dream. I'm not leaving. I'll never leave." *** If your whole life turns out to be a life, will you ever learn to trust again?
