NOW PUBLISHED. What does it mean to be normal? It's such a loaded word, with about a billion different meanings, and every one of them makes Ava Collins sick. At 17, Ava has been deaf for as long as she can remember. She grew up constantly reminded that she wasn't - and couldn't - be normal, that she needed to be 'fixed', but it wasn't until she met Theo De Vries that she learned the truth. Deaf doesn't mean broken, it means different. And different isn't a bad thing. _____ © Jandra Sutton. 2017. All rights reserved. Highest Ranking: #1 in Humor [FEATURED, SEPT-OCT] An idealistic poet refuses to budge from the last parcel of land a developer needs to acquire in order to build a shopping mall. (Literary satire with pop culture references and environmental themes.) synopsis: The Myth of Wile E. is a riff on the modern obsession with fame and acclaim, as well as a mediation on the artist's place in the modern world, as seen through the eyes of a naive poet who is made simultaneously pathetic and heroic by the pursuit of a singular goal. In this novel, we meet an assortment of eccentric monomaniacs, from mushroom hunters in search of a legendary truffle, to birders pursuing a possibly-extinct bird, to competitive Duck Stamp artists, to "the World's Foremost Living Statue"...and even a very stubborn spider. Meanwhile, our narrator--a terrible, yet persistent, poet--battles a ruthless land developer who's determined to acquire the poet's humble property, in an escalating battle of wills that spirals out of control when the media gets involved. With these quirky events as a backdrop, we gradually learn of the misfortunes that befell each member of the poet's family in their various misguided quests for glory. We also learn why money makes the world go flat, why talent is a white elephant, and what it means for parents to love their children "to pieces." Some of my influences are Richard Brautigan (especially), Christopher Moore, Kurt Vonnegut, Tom Robbins, and George Saunders, so if you like any of them, I hope you'll enjoy this, too.

PRIDE'S CHILDREN, Book 1, is complete. ***** Finalist for 2016 Wishing Shelf Independent Book Awards (UK)***** If you start reading on Wattpad, and would CONSIDER writing a review on Amazon (purchase not required, PM me for an electronic REVIEW Copy). The review is up to you - I won't nag. [It is published, on Amazon in Kindle Select, as of Oct. 30, 2015. The requirements for KDP are that the story not be available anywhere else, so I have taken all but 10% off Wattpad, where it had a great run. It is available in print as well.] If you like the sample here, let me know - all comments welcome. ***** WHAT YOU DO WITH AN OBSESSION COUNTS "I, KARENNA ELIZABETH Ashe, being of sound mind, do... But that's it, isn't it? Being here proves I am not of sound mind..." So begins Book 1 of the Pride's Children trilogy: Kary immediately regrets the misplaced sense of noblesse oblige which compels her to appear, live on national television-at exorbitant personal cost. What she cannot anticipate is an entanglement with Hollywood that destroys her carefully-constructed solitudinarian life. A contemporary mainstream love story, in the epic tradition of Jane Eyre, and Dorothy L. Sayers' four-novel bond between Lord Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane, Pride's Children starts with a very public chance encounter, and eventually stretches over three separate continents. ~ ~ ~ The complete blurb is on Amazon: http://amzn.com/B017AZLTLG http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B017AZLTLG ~ ~ ~ RATING: Sexual innuendo, mild swearing, occasional non-graphic violence (PG-13).

[A Psycho Thriller set in the French Revolution] Paris, 1793 It is a time when people's hearts are tainted in ghastly hues of red and black, a time when people rage and roar as the wheels of Revolution turn at a dizzying speed. Philippe Fitzgerald is thrown out of the French Army after committing a crime that everyone deems unspeakable. When he returns to Paris--his hometown-- to find even the last drops of its magnificence squeezed out by the Revolution, he struggles to make his way through the dredges of poverty. It is a time when the lowest rungs of the economic ladder bear the brunt of political tension and legislative inadequacies. It is then that he forges a deep bond of friendship with noblewoman Marie d'Aramitz, who has been ostracized by her people due to their fear of a powerful man who is hunting her down to salvage the pitiful remains of his family name. Together, in a country that smothers the fire before it is a spark, they try to set the people ablaze. [Highest Ranking: #12 in Historical Fiction] [Cover by the super talented @wifidisconnected]

Boy meets girl, girl falls in love, blah-blah-blah. Let me be clear with you from the beginning. This is not that kind of story. My name is Cait, and I live in the great city of New York. Okay, so maybe I've only lived here for a week and a half, sue me, but what else am I supposed to say? This strange and beautiful metropolis is my new home, or the closest thing I've probably ever had to a home, and I intend to make the most of my time here. I'm 20 years old, an ex-sophomore in college, and I'm really good at math. Obviously, I've never filled out any kind of bio before. This is my story. It's the kind of story where reality bites, love isn't always what it seems, and maybe - just maybe - everything won't suck in the end. #43 in General Fiction - 12/02/2016 #44 in Teen Fiction - 6/11/2017 _____ © Jandra Sutton. 2016. Mae thinks no one notices when she stifles tears in the back of art class. But someone does. Maybe it's high time Mae realizes that even though crying sucks when someone else sees it, that's all the more reason they deserve to know why.
