He made 12 different keys that representations all his powers on his journey he finds the boy that was destined to protect his powers. People heard about the keys and wanted to get there hands on them so they can use them for evil or for their own greed. Fresno heard people will come so he built the house and hid them around the house. Only Francis can protect them after He is gone.
