Sometimes the biggest adventure starts with a one-way flight and a dream you're not sure you're brave enough to chase. After finishing my first year teaching kindergarten, I thought my summer would be simple-sleep in, relax, and finally have some time for myself apparently, the universe had other plans. I've always loved dancing, and when I saw that the Texas Tailgaters were holding auditions for their dance team, the Texas Two Steppers, I knew I had to try. So for weeks, I practiced every routine they sent me. I danced until my legs hurt, replayed the music until I knew every beat, and convinced myself that maybe-just maybe-I had what it took. Then suddenly, I'm standing in an airport with a suitcase, a dance bag, and enough nerves to make me question every decision that led me here. My destination? Savannah, Georgia.
The moment I step inside Savannah Bananas Stadium, I'm surrounded by dancers stretching, athletes warming up, coaches giving instructions, and performers preparing for auditions. This is real, this is happening and then I see him, Jayson Arendt.
Texas Tailgaters star player.
Incredible athlete.
Talented singer.
Confident performer annd, unfortunately for my ability to think clearly...ridiculously handsome. I've seen him play. I've watched him perform I know exactly who he is, but he has no idea who I am. At least, not yet. When I step on the field for the Texas Two Steppers audition, I step onto that field determined to prove that I belong there. I came to Georgia for a dance audition, but I never expected to find him and I definitely didn't expect one summer with the Texas Tailgaters to change everything. Sometimes the person you never planned on meeting becomes the person who feels like home.
