Why I Wrote This Story I wrote Love in the Trenches because love saved me. Because people like us don't often get soft endings on the page. Because the world sees stereotypes where there are souls. Because Maddie-my girlfriend-believed in me so deeply that she went behind my back, without my permission, and made this story real as an anniversary gift. She saw something in me before the world did. This book is my thank-you.
