Bloom Through Briars is a collection of poetry born from surviving what was meant to break me. Within these pages are poems about childhood wounds, grief that lingers long after loss, the weight of depression, and the scars left behind by abuse. Itoshii: A Tanka Collection began with an old Japanese word, "itoshii", meaning "beloved" or "darling." From that, grew a collection of tanka poems in its many forms - devotion, heartbreak, the slow return to yourself, and the realities. Moreover, tanka poetry is spare by nature. Five lines, and a handful of syllables. Therefore, that restraint felt right within this subject, since love rarely announces itself loudly.

These are texts I wrote to my boss while recovering from a traumatic event, they tell a story of healing, initiation into adulthood and of God's goodness and grandeur beyond anything we could imagine.
