The Exiled Nymph Pepito and the Portal to Progress - Book 2 A cursed fairy. A stubborn inventor. And a portal that's about to open more than just doors... Sixto "Pepito" Espiritu didn't plan on becoming the accidental landlord to a mouthy, mead-brewing nymph with trust issues and wings. He just wanted to open his shop, sell some solar panels, and maybe not die in the process. But destiny had other plans. Luningning "Ning" Esmeralda has secrets-ancient ones. Banished by her own people for a mark she never asked for, Ning's return to the world of humans triggers old magic, forgotten grudges, and awkward sleeping arrangements above a hardware store. As Pepito's Portal to Progress gains attention, so do the strange forces lurking in the shadows of Sarimanook. Between black-market monster parts, cryptic letters from 300 years ago, and a dragon queen looking for her baby, Pepito and Ning are pulled into a spiraling mess of politics, folklore, and rebellion. All while trying not to fall for each other-or get each other killed. --- This is Book 2 in the award-dodging Portal to Progress saga. Expect fairies with attitude, dwarves with drinking problems, ancient secrets, flirty banter, and heart-lots of heart.

[This is the translated version of my original Indonesian story. To support me or read the Bahasa Indonesia version, visit my profile] In an alternate version of the 2000s, where technology surges forward and magic-once revered-is hunted to the edge of extinction, lives a young man named Hans. By day, he is a quiet bartender, blending drinks for patrons who never suspect the truth: buried deep within him lies a power passed down from his mother, a healer and sorceress, and his father, a drunken gambler entangled in the shadows of the criminal underworld. For years, Hans has lived in silence-choosing solitude not for peace, but to shield himself from the scars of his past and the shame that clings to him like a second skin. He hides his power, not out of cowardice, but out of pain. That is, until a stranger walks into his bar. A dark-skinned man from the southern isles, the stranger calls himself Kaelani-or Kaelan. But he is no ordinary guest. He carries with him a sorrow deeper than grief, the remnants of a lost homeland-Maluʻia-an archipelago laid to ruin by the very technology that now rules the world. Like Hans, Kaelan is a mage, a guardian of protective magic betrayed by the one he loved. That betrayal cost him his people, his purpose, and nearly his soul. Their meeting is no coincidence. Two fractured souls, exiled from the destinies they were meant to fulfill, begin to find flickers of hope in each other's quiet company. But beyond the whispered conversations and the soft hum of city nights, the world stirs once more. Magic is awakening-and Hans may be the key that time itself has tried to forget.

From castles to glens, rivers to mountains, and heroes to villains, this series of tales asks questions of morality all the while crafting a tale of a gloomy succession war and more. The story mainly follows Lord Ainarik, a week away from his coronation and excited to bring his people out of economic and political depravity. His people are those of Mrelmor, a city state high in the mountains. Unfortunately for Ainarik, someone challenges his claim to the throne. Someone who could be better suited for it, under certain circumstances, but should absolutely not in any regard.

Show me a man yet unrocked, unscathed, unblemished by hunger. Point him out to me and say: "He's the one. He's never felt hunger in his entire life." And I'll point out the same man as the hungriest man of all. In a race against the bell both Othy and Torolf prepare for their respective tasks at hand. Both are relatively new to their lives as mercs, yet they hunger. But hunger comes in many forms. Where one hungers for food, another may hunger for love, affiliation, or a sense of respect. Hunger, in its most rudimentary sense, is a feeling of loss or lack of something one yearns for or needs. Even if what Othy or Torolf hungers for may differ, their struggles to settle it may coincide. Maybe even more than they would ever give it credit for. And while they're both struggling for appeasement Dioge struggles on his own, miles away from anyone other than members of his own flock.

On festival night the harbor lights blink out, a clamp screams, and someone goes under. Seventeen-year-old Alessia Monroe moves before the town can gasp-no cape, no magic spectacle, just fast hands, a steel ladder, and a family that treats competence like a language. When the lights come back, a stranger is replaying the moment frame by frame, and polite people with silver-crest cards (teeth? crown? gear?) start using words like discretion and community safety. Echelon is what happens when power dresses like philanthropy and asks the gifted to be quiet. The Monroes don't chase glory; they keep receipts-literally, in a matte tin hidden behind a baseboard-names and favors the harbor would rather forget. Invitations become interviews; a cliff-house "briefing" feels like a velvet threat; a fundraiser rewrites history in white walls and champagne. Threading between it all are texts from someone called V: useful, unnerving, never free. As pressure builds, Alessia leans on the oldest coastal law-water tells the truth first. Expect urban-fantasy grit with political-thriller bones: protective mom energy, found family, slow-burn secrets, and a heroine who refuses to be anybody's evidence. The question isn't what she can do; it's who gets to decide what she's allowed to be.
