Lucas leaned back in his seat as Mr. Mathews walked away, finally letting himself cry. He knew that crying meant giving up, he knew that, but what else was he supposed to do? His girlfriend got shot. His Maya. His blonde beauty. Fighting for her life. What, is he supposed to get up and give some hope-filled speech, saying 'Maya is the strongest person we know, she can do this'? No. He couldn't.
