"Death? What do I think of death?" his voice chuckled the word.
The woman across from us was raising one of her perfectly plucked brows oddly at him. And the steady scratches of her pen writing helped distract me from my own pounding heart. I sat back further in the chair, unsure if I could handle his answer as just a person sitting there. Me, who hardly knew my own past and Aiden was just beginning to help me unravel it. Him, he knows everyone's every move. While I did know some things, I still didn't know much about him.
He became strangely calm for a moment and looked her dead in the eye. Those eyes, those nearly glowing blue eyes I became so used to recently, shone in a way I had never seen.
And then he spoke,
"Death, in all honesty, would be my Sweet Escape."

On a night like any other she walked home, to her small one bedroom apartment in the downtown area. But this night wasn't like any other normal for her. Her eyes glanced every way possible, an uneasy queasy feeling in her stomach. Then it happened. Her life changed and everything flipped upside down. Her life had been far from perfect before, but now she wished for nothing more than her broken water heater and fridge with a dead lightbulb she was too lazy to replace.
With a blank memory and only one random stranger who seems to know who she actually is, Lucinda is alone. She would say "growing up" she was alone too but she can't remember that. Or anything else before a few years ago. She woke up in the middle of nowhere, a small town, few people. Unsure why she felt the need to move around and not stay in one place for long, she accepted her gut feeling and moved from place to place. Only to find there's so much more to her then what meets the eye.
