It's a normal shift Lucy and Tim out on patrol as usual. After shift Tim gets a call from his father he hasn't talked to in years. It brings back memories from Tim's childhood where his dad had been both physically and mentally abusive his whole childhood. The next day Tim is acting off and Lucy notices and try's to get Tim to tell her what's wrong but he keeps quiet. Lucy doesn't give up trying to get Tim to talk to her. Lucy is worried about Tim and it's the only thing she can think about, which makes her boyfriend Chris jealous.

Natalie "Nat" Hayes enlisted in the military at 18, where she met Tim Bradford and became his second-in-command. After leaving the Army together in 2007, the two joined the LAPD. Their shared background helped them advance quickly, and during their rookie year they began dating-marrying just two years later. By 2009, Tim had earned his promotion to Training Officer while Natalie was tapped for Detective, fast-tracked into Narcotics, and partnered with her Academy friend, Isabel Blake. But by 2019, everything had changed. Isabel's struggle with addiction began in 2016, and Nat had gone deep undercover in a cartel ring-six months in when a new wave of rookies joined the LAPD.
