Set in an alternate universe where very little technology exists, this story follows a young girl named Lukka as she lives in a world of gods. Lukka is the "guide" for a humanized America. This means that she has to be able to control him and translate all of his craziness into recognizable terms for the other countries. She is lonely as the only human in the "Upper World," where the countries live, and only makes it worse by pushing everybody away. One day, a new country appears called Eprea. With her, she brings a new guide: a boy named Jasper. Lukka recedes into solitude, too afraid to try to start a friendship with Jasper. When she finally opens up to him, America and Eprea are on the brink of a war that could destroy all of the other countries and their inhabitants. Can the power of love heal a broken heart and save their world before it all gets destroyed?
