A type of deadly blood cancer that cancels the making of white blood cells in the body. After the announcement, her life fell in half. her friends started to drift, bullying was started at school, her long brown hair started to leave her head, and all she got was crappy candy. Hi, guys! I'm a journalist and creative from Brazil and I've been meaning to write a personal essay for quite some time. Hope you like it! :) I guess we all struggle with fear one way or the other so my story might, somehow, resonate with you. I tend to think I'm quite a courageous person. Nevertheless, due to various circumstances, fear has become a constant companion through the years, a mate even. The pandemic only made it worse, as I suddenly found myself in a new and disturbing category of humans: that of the "immunocompromised". Follow me on my journey to get to the other side of fear.

After years of unnoticed symptoms they all started to make too much sense to think otherwise. It had to be lymphoma. But how could one be so sure?

Lymphoma These cancers start in certain cells of the immune system called lymphocytes. They most often grow in lymph nodes and other lymph tissues, like the tonsils or thymus. Lymphomas can also affect the bone marrow and other organs, and can cause different symptoms depending on where the cancer is. This is young Nova's touching life story. Up until her diagnosis she has had a perfect life, but now she will have to learn how to make this new situation work. What could be in store? (Description under construction)

This is a short story that I wrote for my creative writing class. My professor really enjoyed it and said I should enter it into some writing contests, so I thought I'd publish it here to start. This is a creative nonfiction piece that is based on a true story about the time I had an irrational "cancer scare" and how my mom helped me get over it, hence the title "Doctor Mom." My goal for this piece is to give readers insight into the context behind my hypochondria and to ultimately show readers that cancer isn't a death sentence. I hope y'all enjoy my story!

Anyone who knows Alyson Moore knows she's obsessed with pinky promises. From the day she was taught by her mother what they were and how to make one, she made them all the time. Her mom told her the one things to remember about making a pinky promise, is that she should try her hardest if she made one never to break it. Because of that, she made a habit of not breaking them. When Alyson was eight, her mom died. She had lymphoma, cancer of the immune system. Every time now that she make a pinky promise, she remembers her mother, and what she taught her. And she'd sworn to herself, that she would always stay true to what her mother told her, and never break a pinky promise. Until the day came that she did.
