500 word weekend write-in for -step- September 4, 2020 I inadvertently used a MacGuffin, or something like it, in this detective story.

Andalib is a woman is living day-to-day in an Arabian country gripped with war. One night, she learns that her uncle has traded away a powerful artifact to a mysterious foreigner who disappears into a blue portal. This discovery catapults her into an incredible discovery of a hidden world of magic, betrayal, and danger. It is a world she never could have imagined. Monsters locked away and commanded by humans. Loose spirits trying to free their brethren. Men and women vying for power few could have ever dreamed. Andalib wants to get her uncle's artifact back and somehow end the war, but she will have to travel the world to keep herself safe. Hiccup, Toothless and Stoick are in Dunbroch to talk about the new 'trade alliance' with the Scots. Hubert, Hamish and Harris are convinced Hiccup is there to marry Merida, and are trying to stop the 'marriage' however they can. Though Hamish and Harris have more of a conscience than Hubert... the triplets have several schemes up their sleeves, but what happens when they lose control?
