I didn’t ask for this. Travelling wasn’t supposed to be this hard, especially on my first trip. I knew there would be risks, but I was smart. In hindsight, I should have known that I wasn’t ready. I never signed up for this. Alex made my decision for me. My parents would have had a say in the matter, if I was like all the other students, but both of my parents passed away when I was three. They died in a car accident. I grew up in an orphanage on the outskirts of the Bronx. Living was tough, but I managed just fine. Around my fifth birthday, the orphanage owner, Ms. Milligan, started to notice my heightened intelligence. I was enrolled at a school nearby, unlike the other kids I lived with, who were all homeschooled. By the time I was fourteen, Ms. Milligan couldn’t take it anymore. My curiosity was always getting me into trouble, and one day, I drove her so far up the wall (I made a taser out of a disposable camera) that she decided to ship me off to boarding school. I was thrilled. For once, my antics had gotten me into a beneficial situation.Boarding school was everything I had ever imagined. The work was challenging, and for once, I found that I wasn’t the top student in my grade. The second week of classes, I met Ellie. She helped me get used to dorm life, and for once, I felt welcome. I breezed through my freshman and sophomore years, but around the middle of the first term my junior year, everything started to change.
