In the rain-slicked, neon-shadowed alleys of Manila, magic is not a gift-it is a live-streamed cage. The Hegemony controls the grid, licensing relic attunements to the highest bidders while the poor scrape the undercurrent for scraps of forgotten history. But these ancient relics carry a brutal cost: The Toll. Every time Kael activates his father's jagged obsidian shard, he pays with pieces of his own past. A childhood voice. His mother's face. The sound of his father's laugh. Now, with a raw attunement rate of 26% and his brain bleeding from cognitive shock, Kael is running out of memories to burn. Saved from deletion by Mika-a rogue "Baseline Breaker" who uses a weathered brass key to freeze local physics-Kael is dragged into a high-stakes conspiracy. Hidden beneath the Walled City of Intramuros, they breach the ancient stone ramparts, only to find a terrifying truth: Manila's historical landmarks are built on top of massive corporate hardware harvesting the city's attunement. With the Hegemony's elite relic hunters closing the circle, Kael and Mika overload the grid, triggering a spatial tear that launches them north. Ahead of them lies the MacArthur Highway-a continuous, dangerous overland road trip running through Bulacan, Tarlac, and the rugged Sierra Madre passes, completely bypassing the corporate expressways. To find his missing father and survive the journey, Kael must hunt down his father's lost relics, dodge bullets by tracking where the spectators are looking, and decide how much of his own real past he is willing to erase to hold onto the power he needs to survive.

Ruby is a teenage runecaster that somehow became Merlin's failed lab experiment. He doesn't remember what the madman magitech inventor did to him that caused him amnesia, but he'd rather escape not knowing than be treated like a lab rat. While on the run, he finds refuge with Seri, a winged boy who's convinced that the world is out to get cambions like them. Stranded in a derelict house with only each other for company, the homeless amnesiac and his paranoid host can offer each other what the other needs, but Ruby didn't escape one cage just to end up in another, and his bid for freedom could expose them both. If lies are a blanket of blissful ignorance, then the truth is a rat maze growing more complicated with every turn. *** Aug. 16th 2022 status: the new draft is coming soon. REVIEWS and achievements (of the early draft): - I just love the creativity of this story! I can't think of any story to compare it to, because it's simply so unique. - @TeamofDreams - This book is unlike anything I've ever read. Do you remember the last time the sun shone? The sky was the color of bluebirds, and the clouds were white as lilies. You could see colors all the way to the horizon. Then it all turned red, then violet, then dark. This is a story of eternal night, the clockwork city, the petrified woods, and the precious resource of sunlight. While the empress prepares to break a centuries-old contract with the monsters of the dark, children are disappearing one by one. Rebellion explodes in the streets. The forest swarms with yellow eyes. Three lead the way toward the end of everything, though they don't know it: Alexis, the loyal warrior with misplaced trust and a poisonous secret; Briony, the miscreant who stands defiant in the belly of the devouring forest; and Runa, whose faith in the human heart may finally break the masks of the ones who were lost. My name is Marigold S.S Aerian currently the only legitimate Daughter of the King, ruler of the Aer Kingdom. I have four older brothers. We All received titles and duties early in life based on our talents, one title I am most proud of is 'Master Inventor', because of my contributions to the development of the Kingdom's 'Magic Tech' which has greatly helped improve the lives of many subjects in Aer. Everyone says I am gifted with great wisdom of our ancestors which is true but not on the way people think. Actually I can remember a past life. It's not my past life, if I ever had one, but that of my great-great-grandaunt she was the eldest daughter of the Nobel Fire Phoenix clan, the only known descendants of the First King of Aer Kingdom. My great-great-grandaunt Marie-Grace-Ann Rosalind Fotiá was an Inventor and had a love for creating things that no one has ever thought of, she was both praised and scorned for it and I want to be just like her spearheading the new Technologies that will ensure my Kingdom has a prosperous future ahead. If my eldest brother becomes the next King that future will become a reality, but being part of this Royal family succession won't come that easy. The Royal Crown has fallen 3 times in this Kingdom's history, the first time it happened was during the Fifth King's rule it was a betrayal both he and his Kingdom never saw coming, soon after chaos ensued marking the being of a War that never officially ended. It also marked the last time a Fire Phoenix ever sat on the throne until now... Hay,.... here, I have lived in the ocean my entire life almost 100 years, which is very long compared to the current expected life span of my species 50 years. At present we are dying faster than we are being born, and if this continues my colony which holds the second largest tribe of the eight oceans will cease to exist. I do not own any of the pictures used.(Except the cover and A.I Generated Art.) All credits to the artists

The Feast Day of San Galileo brings a motley group of revelers to Kota Maynilad. During the fiesta, sheltered mage-in-training Otts meets Ynés, a feisty machinist's apprentice. As they while away the day together, they encounter the port city's bustling youth culture: punk rock minstrels; carefree kit-bashers who remix spells into mash-ups; sidewalk herbalists with their mind-expanding home-brewed potions; and "glamplayers" who use cantrips to take on the appearance of their favorite folk heroes. Along the way, this mismatched pair discover invaluable lessons about magick, science, 'adulting', and each other. A coming-of-age novelette set in a world of enchanted tech and Philippine alternative history. Recommended If You Like: Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist transplanted to manapunk Southeast Asia

When I initially started writing The Acacia Complex, I had a different idea for what I wanted the character to be like and what I wanted the story to be about. I wrote and refined the first chapter, then wrote a couple more chapters before shelving it and starting fresh. Even though I decided to take it in a different direction, I wanted a record of an early version of this to exist. As such, this chapter 1 represents a first draft of sorts, and should be treated more like a standalone writing exercise rather than a part of a large work.
