🔥FEAST OF FIRES🔥 It was five years ago... when Ares tried to ignite fire like all the other mages do. Theirs was a flickering red and orangey flame that was magnificent. He looked at the magic he created... to his disgrace, it was a black distorted scorching fire that blazed from his fingertips. That was five years ago... when Ares has never known that such an ugly form of fire was illegal because it was a threat to the kingdom. ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ There was something beyond that searing inferno... something comparable to a sweet nightmare.

This may be a bit awkward, but I had an idea, of cloning the resident emo, Maggie. When a Cloning machine goes horribly wrong, Maggie and the Loud Siblings must find a way to stop them before they do irreversible damage to Royal Woods, and beyond. (Now with 20% more Maggie clones!) Meanwhile, the original will learn that not all things are as grim-dark as it would appear. Sounds simple, right? Well, to Maggie...you may as well be dead wrong here. (This is a stand-alone story, not relating to the main Tales.)

Nathaniel has been a pirate for half his life, sailing the clouds on airships powered by steam and magic. He has grown tired of the danger and hardship and wants to start a new life free of his past, perhaps with a woman by his side. This is a rewrite of my earlier short story "A pirate's last flight." I decided to rewrite it for a couple reasons. First to refine it and polish it a bit more. Second, and more importantly, to put it in the low fantasy/steampunk inspired world I'm currently writing other stories in.

When college dropout Alex Mercer doodled tank schematics in the back of a lecture hall, he never imagined he'd become the conduit for an ancient war machine's vengeance. And the AI in Alex's head, Valkyrie, whispers promises of victory... for a price. As Alex's ragtag squad of students and WWII GIs battle biomechanical nightmares, they must confront a truth: War is a poison. Even victory tastes of ash. Magic: a common ability, in The Radiant Isles, the advanced society of light and knowledge, and Home of the Elves, and most Humans; but not so in Ulfavir, The Deep, the Lands of darkness and chaos, Home of... everything else. Magic: personal in nature, unique to a point, though usually identifiable and trainable; until It's simply... not. Magic: all-powerful, industrious, intricate, and challenging; and also flawed, full of weaknesses, chaotic, over complicated, uncontrollable, and dangerous. That's all magic really is, after all... semantics, and two sides to a coin that decides the fate of the world, every day.
