Akcja opowieści dzieję się na początku XIX wieku w Wielkiej Brytanii. Głównym bohaterem jest John Howard, który jest popularnym malarzem. Bierze ślub z pianistką Anną Bethell. Po dwóch latach spokojnego małżeństwa Anna zachodzi w ciąże. Niestety John popada w szaleństwo i rozwija się u niego schizofrenia. Wydarzenie, które dzieją się w międzyczasie dobijają głównego bohatera i popełnia okropną zbrodnię. Opowieść jest dramatem z elementami thrillera w, której ważną rolę będzie pełniła sztuka. Będzie można wejść z umysł bohatera, poczuć co przeżywa w głębi.
