Maggie has a goal in mind and won't let anything stop her-not her unfavorable allies, not her lingering guilt, and definitely not her meddlesome thoughts about the long-ago sister who never came back for her. But a chance encounter with a special boy changes everything and causes her to reassess all of her plans and priorities. (This is a work of fanfiction for Marissa Meyer's Renegades series. It takes place after the series and contains major spoilers.)

"Hello?" "Ethan Lathlow?" "Yes." "That's great. This is Denise from Women's Weekly. I was wondering if you wanted to write an article for our magazine." Ethan is a writer, a blogger, an editor. He submits works to magazines and newspapers, which always seem to be successful. He lives on a small block in a tiny town where no one pays a visit, because that's how he likes it. Ethan is an introvert, and has never liked other people. Ethan gets a phone call from a woman, asking him to write an article for her magazine, on a topic he's never written about before. Women. He takes up the job, but uncertain what to write, worried this article could cost him his reputation. One afternoon he finds a magpie on his driveway after returning from a day out of town. He picks her up, brings her to his house, and puts her in a box. With no experience with animals, Ethan gives her a small bowl of water and leaves the box on his dining table, intending to take the bird to the vet the next day. However Ethan doesn't get the chance to take the magpie to the vet the next morning. He's woken from his sleep that night by a sound in his kitchen, and it doesn't sound like a bird. What he finds in his kitchen will change his life forever. (This book isn't about love, it's about learning, growing and finding out just how much a person can take mentally. It's about innocence and being a human with problems, and trying to deal with them every single day)
