They're part of a Mafia gang. a rival gang has been threatening their Family for generations and each time the Kamado's obliged because their families lives were on the line. Tanjiro and Nezuko are no exception to this, the person who runs the other Mafia gives them missions to kill innocent people in exchange for money. One day, Tanjiro and Nezuko's Family was slaughtered by a rival Mafia who envied them since their family was stronger. Tanjiro and Nezuko are trained Assassins for the Mafia. though, that's just their secret life, in their normal life, they go to school like normal people and have normal relationships with people. Both Kamado's have developed crushes on fellow students in their school and instructed each other not to kill the other's crush for the sake of each other's happiness. After Tanjiro and Nezuko's Family was slaughtered, they were adopted by a man who adopted them because he understood how it felt to lose their family. that man was Giyu Tomioka, his family was also murdered by people from a Mafia, including his parents and sister Tsutako. Although Sabito and Makomo did not die, they lived and were Giyu's friends for many years and were excited when they heard Tomioka adopted children. Tomioka is slightly nicer and more open with his feelings than as canon since Sabito and Makomo did not die. Please read this story I had to do a lot of research and lost sleep for this 🥲
