Everyone knows that there is something up with the Lady of the Manor, but there isn't anything the townsfolk can do, especially since she hasn't done anything wrong, per se; she's just out of place. But Jackson is desperate for money, so if he wishes not to starve to death, he'll get a job at the manor on the hill.
