    This story is about the marriage of the holy Roman emperor, Leopold I of Austria and his first and favorite wife, Margaret Therese of Spain, elder sister of Charles II of Spain. The year was 1665. Philip IV of Spain, despite being in the verge of death, marries his daughter, Princess Margareta Theresa to Emperor Leopold I of Austria.A few years ago, when Margareta was 10, a picture of her infatuated Emperor Leopold, who was the younger brother of her mother, Marianna of Austria. Paternally, Leopold was Margareta's first cousin as Marianna was the niece and second wife of Philip IV, and had two surviving children, Margareta and her younger brother, Charles ( later Charles II of Spain ). Margareta was beloved,back in Spain,despite her father's infidelities,she knew him to be very doting towards her and always showered her with her favorite, candies.She had fellow playmates who were nice with her, and she was a caring sister to her ailing brother, Charles. Leopold knew it all. He admired her for it.When his letter of asking for Margareta's hand in marriage was approved,he was the one who could hardly wait to see Margareta, his niece after a long time.
