It's hard being a mermaid in the modern world. Laguna Irving knows this all too well, considering the fact that she is a mermaid living in the heart of New York City. Over the years, her family adapted to their environment as surface-mers, content to live in hiding amongst humans. Now in college studying marine biology against her parents' wishes, for obvious reasons, Laguna wishes for something interesting to happen to break the monotony of her "normal" everyday life. That is, until a late-night accident in the city aquarium comes back to haunt her in the wake of a would-be reporter. Now Laguna has to fight to protect her secret, or else risk exposure to people better kept in the dark, including a certain fellow marine biology major...

Dr. Ethan Rowe hates stories; he trusts numbers. But when a cargo ship vanishes into the Bermuda Triangle without a trace, a strange magnetic anomaly forces him and the crew of the Arclight into the deep. Two thousand meters below the surface, they don't find ghosts or a typical shipwreck. They find a massive, geometric structure embedded in the oceanic crust a planetary stabilizer working in silent, indifferent cycles to keep the Earth balanced. The Bermuda Triangle isn't a death trap. It's a maintenance zone. And anyone who wanders in during a calibration cycle is simply collateral damage.

Laura Bennett has dreamed of becoming a marine biologist for as long as she can remember. Now, at twenty-two and studying at one of the country's top marine science programs, she's determined to prove she belongs. Every class, every research trip, and every late-night study session brings her one step closer to protecting the ocean she's loved since childhood. There's just one problem: Liam Carter. Brilliant, stubborn, and infuriatingly talented, Liam is always one step ahead. Whether they're competing for the same internship or arguing over research in the lab, the two can't seem to agree on anything. But when an unexpected opportunity sends them on a months-long coastal research expedition, they're forced to work together. As they dive beneath the waves to study endangered marine life, Laura and Liam uncover more than rare species and breathtaking reefs. Hidden secrets, unexpected dangers, and the growing threat to the fragile ecosystem test both their skills and their hearts. Somewhere between the crashing tides, late-night conversations beneath the stars, and moments when they must trust each other with their lives, their rivalry begins to turn into something neither of them saw coming. Sometimes, the greatest discoveries aren't found beneath the Earth's surface-they're found in the people who dive beside you.

A 2019 Wattys entry deeply into climate change, global warming, and environmental destruction, especially the nuclear kind! A lot of true facts are embedded in this story which has both true and fictional characters. Who is to be believed is for you to decide. The chapters are many but many are short. Still, it is a full-sized novel with promise for future adventures. Plot: An international crew of scientists board a large state-of -the art oceanographic vessel privately funded by an anonymous source. The itinerary is to travel down the west coast of the Americas and travel the South Pacific to Antarctica. The team plans to visit many known sites of hydrothermal vents using a device called the MAPR, searching vents for a bacterium that seems promising in use as a way to fight carbon dioxide emissions. But one of the two junior scientists on the team soon realizes that secrets are being kept, and makes promises to keep some, while learning that some onboard have entirely different agendas. To complicate matters, this junior scientist's desire for a special friendship grows in intensity, just as mysterious murmurings and strange sightings intensify. And then, the ship experiences a sequence of events that will draw world attention and leave all of us with more questions than answers. "If there is magic on this planet, it is contained in water." "The Immense Journey" by Loren Eiseley "No other place, always this Your earthly landfall, and no ship exists To take you from yourself." By Lawrence Durrell

Five years ago, Emma Sullivan traded small-town sunsets for big city lights, leaving behind her grandmother's cherished bookstore-and her high school crush, Ben Harrison. Now she's back in Lighthouse Cove, determined to save the bookstore's legacy, even if success feels as elusive as the perfect summer romance. But Ben isn't the same quiet boy who once slipped notes into her favorite novels. Now, he's a passionate marine biologist fighting to protect their coastal paradise, with a confidence that makes her pulse race like the incoming tide. When their paths collide in a literal stack of falling books, Emma discovers that some feelings don't fade with time-they just get buried like seashells waiting to be found. As summer unfolds in their picturesque beach town, Emma and Ben find themselves co-writing a new chapter neither expected. Between organizing beach cleanups, rescuing sea turtles, and fighting off corporate bookstore chains, they're discovering that maybe-just maybe-the best love stories are worth waiting for. But when career opportunities threaten to pull them in opposite directions again, they'll have to decide: Is their second-chance romance destined to be a summer fling, or could it be the kind of love that lasts longer than a perfect sunset?
