"But tell me the truth, would you have come if you were staying longer?" She smiles widely and I mimic her. "Depends, would you continue acting like an asshole?" I chuckle. I know she will never let that go, and weirdly it brings me joy because that means that she will never forget the day we met. And I don't want her to forget it because it is forged forever in my mind. I am bound by that day, but if I am bound, she should be too. I want us to be bound forever by that day. "Maybe. Depends if you will text me this time." "Then maybe." With a grin on my face, I reply, "Maybe is good enough for now." A lie. Truly, maybe is not enough, but I will wait for her forever if it is necessary. My Entry for the Planet or Plastic writing contest

It's hard being a mermaid in the modern world. Laguna Irving knows this all too well, considering the fact that she is a mermaid living in the heart of New York City. Over the years, her family adapted to their environment as surface-mers, content to live in hiding amongst humans. Now in college studying marine biology against her parents' wishes, for obvious reasons, Laguna wishes for something interesting to happen to break the monotony of her "normal" everyday life. That is, until a late-night accident in the city aquarium comes back to haunt her in the wake of a would-be reporter. Now Laguna has to fight to protect her secret, or else risk exposure to people better kept in the dark, including a certain fellow marine biology major...
