Evan Devaldi and Noah Peters have survived more together than most people could imagine. Now they're eighteen, engaged, and certain of one thing: whatever comes next, they're facing it together. There's just one problem. Evan joined the Marines. While Evan is sent hundreds of miles away to begin the hardest challenge of his life, Noah is left behind with nothing but occasional letters, an engagement ring, and the promise that this distance is temporary. But growing up has a funny way of changing things. For the first time since becoming best friends in kindergarten, Evan and Noah can't simply reach for each other when things go wrong. They're being forced to discover who they are apart while trying desperately to hold onto who they've always been together. And with a future neither of them can completely control, they'll have to decide whether the promises they made as kids can survive the lives they're beginning as adults. Because sometimes the hardest thing isn't falling in love. It's protecting that love from everything that comes between us. The sequel to What the Darkness Couldn't Take #5 in Noah

Johanna Swanson has seen hell. A Marine medic turned survivor in a world of walkers, she's had to fight not just for her life, but for her kids. In the harsh, decaying world after the fall of civilization, there are no rules, and Johanna plays by one: survive at all costs. But when she stumbles upon a small group of survivors, Johanna knows her luck has run out. They're a ragtag bunch, scavenging whatever scraps they can find. They're not much different from the others - desperate and willing to do anything to stay alive. Yet, amidst the chaos of walkers and the even darker threats from human survivors, Johanna has to make a choice. Does she keep her distance or step in and try to lead, once again risking her life for people she doesn't know? As Johanna navigates the dangerous world around her, from the ever-present walkers to new moral dilemmas, she starts to question her own humanity. Her sole focus had always been her kids, but in this world, survival doesn't just mean keeping them alive. It means keeping her own sanity intact while navigating a world where every decision could be the last.

Sadie Callahan thought she had moved on. It's been seven years since Imani Brooks disappeared from her life after a scandal forced her out of St. Claire's High School. Seven years of missed chances, almost-confessions, and relationships that never quite felt complete. Now Sadie spends her days teaching chemistry at the same school they once attended and her nights trying not to think about the girl she never truly got over. But when a bad breakup leads Sadie to the freezer aisle of Boudreaux's Market, she comes face to face with the last person she ever expected to see again. Imani is no longer the guarded teenager Sadie remembers. She's older now. Stronger. A Marine Corps sergeant with an entirely different life far away from their small Louisiana town. But some people stay with you long after they leave. Everything We Almost Were is a heartfelt story about first love, mental illness, growing up, and finding your way back to the people who once felt like home.

I grew up on the south side of town where people aren't exactly considered good. My father was an abusive drug addict who was barely around, and my mom died when I was three and I haven't even mentioned my ex yet. I got through life one day at a time, sometimes surviving on nothing but a TV dinner. I went to school and did the best I could, but with two jobs to pay for rent, school wasn't exactly my top priority. I sent out college applications just to see what I could get into and maybe even afford one day. I was talking to the guidance councilor when he asked me about the military. I had never thought about it before, and the idea of it scared me, but what else was a girl that people only expected failure from to do? Sergeant John Williams was in charge on my battalion for our twelve week training program. He was rude, mean and extremely attractive. There were times where I thought he didn't like me, but times where I thought the opposite. Coming from a hard life doesn't mean I can't make it better. It just means I have more will to try because if I fail this, I go back to the life that was expected of me. I am not a failure, nor am I weak - I am a marine. ***DISCLAIMER: I am not in the marines and never have been. I do research, but not everything is online and able to be accessed. Some things may be changed for the purpose of the story. Please do not tell me thy something is incorrect unless it is something small that's easy to fix.
