Bowser is gone, the Mushroom Kingdom is safe and peaceful and the Mario Bros. plumbing service is shut down. 30 years after the death of Bowser, Mario and Peach's son and daughter, Tucker and Sallie, find a stone statue in the ruins of Bowser's Castle. It turns out it was Bowser, awoken and more destructive than ever. Mario, Peach, Luigi and Daisy die during a giant earthquake and Tucker and Sallie have special powers that they must master. The journey follows Tucker, Sallie and two toad friends, Toadlow and Toadlamp and their journey to stop Bowser.
