A few weeks ago, sixteen year old Tessa wrote her celebrity crush a letter. "Dear Josh Holloway, I would die to meet you..." That day, Tessa's plane flying to LA crashes and only three survive. This island brings them many problems like scarce food and water, and the dangerous natives who capture them. The island brings them some good things too, like friendship and peace. The "fate" on this island will show Tessa true love, and how important her worthless life actually is.

But along the way, the two of them realise that this is race against time, one that their lives depended on.

Convinced of imminent rescue, Mark's dormant faith in God is rekindled, but can he remain true to his beliefs and promises? Razma, a nurse with aspirations to be a doctor is frustrated with her country, it's backwardness, and has inwardly rejected the clerics' revolutionary brand of Shia Islam. She is a proud Persian and sees no hope for her country. She is intrigued by handsome Mark, his character and faith, and how they are managing to survive while patiently awaiting rescue. With her husband missing, in an arranged marriage she abhors, she fears she is falling for a married man who desires to remain true to his wife despite being castaway. The Island is a story of learning how to love, of contradictions and challenges to faith, and finding that courage necessary in the face of despair. This was my first novel, done in November 2015 during National Novel Writing Month. This version has been updated and edited from the original.

A modern retelling of "Lord of the Flies" by William Golding. Imagine if, instead of a group of British schoolboys, a bunch of girls were stranded on the island. One would expect them to be organized. To conduct themselves in a well-mannered way. Never mind that they are on an island: these are girls, and girls are sweet; innocent, even. They would never be able to harm a soul. Never resort to hunting down one of their fellow companions. They're just not capable. Right? [COMPLETED]

This piece of microfiction was written in response to an intriguing writing challenge: how would you escape a deserted island if all you had were coconuts, a dictionary, and a mask? I can't say if the protagonist's plan would actually work, but it's as close to an escape as I could come up with that was still grounded in reality.

When you've been hurt, it's difficult to learn to love again. When you've felt pain, it's not so easy to be joyful. When your heart has been broken, it feels impossible to let someone put it back together. But then someone comes along, and they want to love you. They want to give you joy.
