This book follows Loki before Thor (2011) happens. Loki: Before the Fall Loki grew up in Thors shadow but he loved his brother. No matter how envious he was of his brother at times, he does truly care for him. The two grew up close, they came as a package deal or not at all. Loki the brains and Thor the brawn. They thought up schemes, played games, fought and talked. At least until Odin's favour of Thor tore them apart. Odin loved Loki, truly, but he had just one reason from taking him and that was so the Loki could form an alliance between Jotemheim and Asgard. When he took him he didn't think he'd love him as he did his own son but he loved him all the same the more the years went by. It wasn't favour that made Odin push his youngest son away, it was fear. Frigga, the closest person to him, other than Thor of course, gave Loki light to cast away the shadows. Made him feel big when Odin made him feel small. Taught him manners and magic, taught him to care even when no one else did. Some lessons need to be lived rather than learned. As Loki grew up, as much as he adored his mother, felt that some of her teachings were futile in a world that doesn't care for them. Thors friends were Loki's friends once. They treated him as an equal when they were children, slowly, almost unconsciously they started treating him differently and Loki was at a loss for why. Was it all his tricks maybe? Did they always feel he was something bad even if he was trying to do good? He'd never know.
