England, 1539. After marrying 4 times and finally getting a male heir to continue the line, King Henry VIII decided that it is time to find a husband for her eldest daughter Mary.
Mary is 23 years old, but she already carries a lot of struggles and worries for her age. The "Great Matter" in 1533 changed her life forever. After being declared illegitimate, forbade to see her mother even on her death bead and forced to serve, Mary's character shattered. She blames herself for all it happened and tries to mask it with perfect manners, though it pains her on the inside. She does not trust easily and does not know how to let somebody who really wants to help her in.
Duke Philip is a German Duke. Loosing both his parents because of the Landshut's "War of Succession" in 1504 and only being but an infant, Philip had grown his character - he is known as "Philipp der Streitbare", in English translates to "Philip the Contentious".
In 1529, he successfully fought the Turks during the Siege of Vienna at the head of two regiments and was made a Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece two years later. He is an adventurous person and perhaps a little too much to go in England and ask for the King's daughter's hand in marriage.
When they met for the first time on 8th of December, Philip and Mary felt an instant connection. They both have similar past and scars and they both know exactly what it is to have to pretend that you're not hurting just to please the people.
The question is - will Mary let Philip in? Will she let him see her true fears, her scars, her worries, her burdens that still haunt her at night and she cannot sleep because of. Will she let him see the real Mary?
