Description:
Sam never wanted to move to the U.S. She was fine in Georgia (the country, not the state), where she knew how things worked-even if life there wasn't perfect. Now, she's stuck in Pennsylvania, starting senior year at a school where she knows no one, doesn't care to fit in, and just wants to survive without making a scene. For her mom's sake, if nothing else.
But high school isn't that simple.
Between judgmental classmates, a culture she doesn't quite understand, and the ever-present threat of bullying, keeping her head down is harder than she thought. And then there's the loneliness. She misses her best friend. She misses the life she had. She misses the therapist who actually understood her.
Sam tells herself she doesn't need anyone. She's been burned before, and letting people in only leads to disappointment. But when unexpected friendships start forming and a romance she didn't see coming throws her off balance, she starts to question everything.
Can she really get through this year without falling apart? Can she protect herself from the people who want to tear her down? And, more importantly, can she face the parts of herself she's been avoiding for so long?
A raw, emotional story about moving on, breaking down, love, family, and the struggle of figuring out where you belong.
