At Thorpe Abbotts Ruby met Gale Cleven who was known as Buck. Ruby worked as a nurse and helped out on base wherever she could. Buck Cleven was a Major and pilot of the 100th Bombardment Group. With a war going on Ruby would have never thought of falling in love, especially not with a pilot.
