Rue, Esme, and Delia are training to take their place as leaders of tribes in their matriarchal society. They each know what is expected of them but must overcome their insecurities in order to pass their final tests. But when the council made up of their moms and advisers vanish, the girls have to work together to solve the mystery and find the key to set them free.

Kia and her four bond-sisters are five strong, hoping to return after the turning of the moon and court a husband.
