Haymitch Abernathy is a sixteen year old from District 12. His life is turned upside down when he is chosen to be a tribute for The Hunger Games. This is about his treacherous time in the Arena.

This is Haymitch's story of how he helped Katniss and Peeta survive the hunger games, all the while reliving his time in the hunger games and trying to forget the memory of Maysilee Donner. The girl he couldn't save.

When 16 year old Haymitch Abernathy is selected to compete in the 50th Hunger Games, he expected to die. What he didn't count on was worrying about the death of others. When Haymitch decides to ally himself with the other District 12 tributes, he finds friends in the one place you cannot make them. And even worse, he finds himself falling deeply in love-even though for one to survive the other must die.

May Donner named after Maysilee Donner, her mom sister, people say that she looks and acts exactly like her. When she got reaped everyone that knew Maysilee Donner couldn't help but think of her when they saw May walk up, not even Haymitch could help it.

They won't let him forget the tributes he killed or the families who no longer have children. Everywhere he turns is another reminder of what happened. Lilly is Haymitch's other best friend. She watched as birds fatally attacked the girl she considered a sister, Maysilee. She watched as the boy she loved was forced to change so he could avenge her death and come home. She tries to break the barrier he put up but he seems insistent to keep it, locking her out of his life. Will Lilly be able to help Haymitch? Haymitch nodded and Maysilee's smile grew, her eyes lit up brighter than the sun at dawn.
