scoliosis /ˌskɒlɪˈəʊsɪs,ˌskəʊlɪˈəʊsɪs/ noun abnormal lateral curve of the spine Scoliosis is a medical condition which affects around 2-3% of the population. The condition is categorised into four different groups, the most common being idiopathic. It is by far the most prevalent in adolescent girls. The cause for idiopathic scoliosis is currently unknown. Depending on the severity of the case and age of the patient, scoliosis is usually treated using either (or s combination of) exercises, bracing, or an invasive surgery. At the age of eleven, my world changed. I went from being a normal kid, to being diagnosed with a condition which I had never even heard of. This story is based on my experiences, some names may be changed for privacy reasons. Through this ongoing work I hope to spread awareness about scoliosis and show that it not only affects you physically, but also mentally. I also want anyone who's currently battling this condition to know that you're not alone.
