An 1429, de la Troisième Ère. Dans le Royaume de Britia, soumis à l'autorité et aux décisions du majestueux Empire de Grenat, la guerre religieuse entre l'Armée du Chaos et l'Ordre de Lumière s'apprête à éclater à nouveau après qu'un incident ait eu lieu dans la capitale royale. Cependant, des forces qui surpassent de loin le commun des mortels sont elles aussi entrées dans cette guerre, et le destin de Britia en dépend. Au sein de l'Empire de Grenat, l'Ordre de Lumière prend de plus en plus d'importance, mais les disparités entre la branche britienne de l'Ordre, et celle originelle, localisée dans la capitale impériale, contraignent l'Ordre à n'envoyer aucun renfort dans le Royaume de Britia. La situation politique de l'Empire est délicate, et les jeux de pouvoir se font de plus en plus nombreux. Dans la communauté des mages, la panique s'installe alors qu'un artefact de nature divine a été retrouvé par un jeune voleur de la Cité aux Oiseaux, ville où règnent en maîtresses les Guildes criminels impitoyables. Pour les mages, il faut agir vite pour éviter que des individus malfaisants mettent la main sur cet artefact. Au Nord de l'Empire, les conquêtes se stoppent lorsqu'une armée, venue tout droit des territoires les plus à l'ouest du continent, se mêlent à la bataille entre les forces impériales et l'armée de la cité-libre de Ganaaris. Cette armée est puissante, et pourrait mettre à mal la suprématie d'un Empire déjà déstabilisé de l'intérieur.
