Continuò ad accarezzare i capelli della bambina, mugolando la melodia della ninnananna. "Sempre" confermò infine. "Fino a quando il Prato crescerà e ti ricorderai di me, io sarò al tuo fianco. Ti ricordi, come dice la ninnananna?" chiese poi, tirandosi a sedere. "Qui sei al sicuro, qui sei al calduccio. Qui le margherite ti proteggon da ogni cruccio... "Qui sogna dolci sogni che il domani farà avverare..." proseguì Katniss, abbozzando un sorriso. "Quello è il luogo in cui ti voglio amare."

"Anche se ti faranno venire in mente le persone che sono morte. Anche se non ci credi, puoi almeno fare finta di credere che sono sempre con noi, dietro il buio. E ognuna di loro ha la sua stella. Anche noi ce l'abbiamo" aggiunse, dando qualche colpetto sulle spalle di Gale. "Tu ed io. E Joel. E lì ci aspettano tutte le persone che sono già in cielo: come i miei nonni, i miei zii e il tuo papà."
