Her mum got in touch with him again after years of not seeing or talking to him, she invites him over. Serena meets him and fall in love and so does he eventually. but there is so many reasons why they can't be together Not to mention their age difference. he is 47 in this story and still in Law and Order svu.

This fanfic is set before captain Cragen retires, and before Olivia's incidents with Lewis (Which in this story never exist).
