This is my attempt at an English translation of the Chinese book "Memoirs Of A Palace Maid". "Memoirs Of A Palace Maid" 《宫女谈往录》is a book published by the Forbidden City Press in July 1992. The authors are Jin Yi and Shen Yiling. The book contains the memoirs of Rong, a palace maid who spent eight years serving Empress Dowager Cixi in the Forbidden City in the late Qing Dynasty. Rong entered palace service when she was thirteen. At age 18, she was given to an eunuch in marriage by Empress Dowager Cixi. Her life was sad and quiet, punctuated by turmoil and suffering. In her aging years, she spoke intimately about life in the Forbidden City. Her memoirs reveal details about Empress Dowager Cixi's day-to-day routines, little known events in Emperor Guangxu's life and touches on the humiliation and anguish of the eunuchs. I read the Chinese book a few years ago while doing research into the lives of women in the Forbidden City. Recently, I looked up the book again and noticed there was no English translation of the book. (If there is an official English translation, please let me know!) The memoir offers an intimate inside perspective of the Forbidden City that is rarely available in historical documentaries and books. I thought it was a shame that the knowledge in this book wasn't available to English readers. This is my naive attempt to translate the book into English.

Sir Timothy's Memoirs. An autobiography. The story of a remarkable life and a fatal belief that gravity applies only to other people. Sir Timothy John Paul Platt Monday, 4th Baronet of Carrickfergus narrates his own deeds. His style is elegantly whimsical, reminiscent of an erudite British gentleman's memoir - polished prose with wit, warmth, eccentric insight, and Anglican grace. The Memoirs chronicle his birth, upbringing, education, passions (philology, runes, philately, cricket, ghosts, Arthurian lore, Anglican faith), his Cumbrian life, and his peculiar cosmology and worldview. His flat-earth beliefs are treated seriously yet with charm - a curious conviction of a learned but idiosyncratic baronet. © All Rights Reserved

When Taehyung and Jungkook become unlikely roommates in Room 407, every day turns into a battle of harmless pranks, stolen snacks, sarcastic remarks, and endless bickering. Dr. E. Margaret Savage (nee Strang) was my great-aunt. She was a remarkable woman in her days and she is now an inspiration to me. She was the third female graduate of UWO’s Medical School in 1929 and was the only female in her class. Great-Aunt Margaret later became a missionary doctor and pastor in the Peace River area of Alberta, Canada. She considered life as an adventure and wrote memoirs of her pursuits and accomplishments. We both grew up in the same old stone house on the Strang family farm in Hurondale, Ontario, Canada (in Huron County near Exeter). Our house was built by my great-great-grandfather roughly 170 years ago and is made of colourful field stones. This is my tribute to Great-Aunt Margaret. I'll share some of her stories and a few of my own.

What if the seven elements that governed the world came to life? What if one of them was evil beyond imagining? What if one of them was you? Jaylin doesn’t feel special. She’s a foundling who can’t remember her childhood, and she’s got to be the only 18-year-old who’s still afraid of the dark. When she is driven away from her home and taken in by five people with strange qualities, she finds out just how special she is and that she has good reason to fear the shadows. She is the living embodiment of Light destined to defy Rama, the bloodthirsty representative of Darkness. Can she find the strength to face her worst fears, especially knowing that they have defeated and killed her in the past?

Nobody's perfect; we all have flaws, weaknesses, and strengths, just like parents. However, in dysfunctional families, the problems in the household are ignored or denied. And children were more likely to suffer or be punished when they tried to voice it out. Dan Sherwood's informative memoir depicts the reality of growing up in a dysfunctional family. The author shared in his narrative the situation an adult faces after growing up in a dysfunctional family.
