This is a paper I wrote for my U.S History class and since May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and a lot of people who struggle with mental health challenges only face those challenges because they have been bullied in one way or another.

What do you think of when you hear some one say, "That Person's BiPolar." Is it just mood swings? A serial killer in the making? This fictional story shows a different perspective to the disorder than what the media shows us. When they were children, Jake Flier and Makenzie Dahl got shipped off to a Low Security Prison because they had a mental disorder. Everyone with BiPolar Disorder, Dissociative Personality Disorder, Schitzophrenia and other illnesses like those are thrown into other prisons, depending on which disorder they had and how severe it is. Therapists aren't what they used to be. They don't help these people, they make their lives worse with neglect. One Therapist decides to betray what she learned in school and training to expose people with these disorders for what they really are; people. Will the world believe her?

A short story about handling depression and mental health during the pandemic. ~~If ever you feel alone or just lost, confused, sad, feel free to message me. We can talk or I can just listen to you if you want and remember, you are loved.~~

Instead of a story about an interaction with mental health, I decided to write about the history of mental health awareness and treatment. Specifically, a certain woman named Dorothea Dix. (I'm not 16 yet so I can't be picked as a winner but I can still enter for the 1$ to that non-profit, thank you!)

This poem was written as a support for the #BraveTogether Maybelline Mental Health Awareness Month donation challenge. The initial requirement asked for a maximum of 500 words but my full poem was close to 800. I decided to break it in two parts, the submitted poem and its continuation below. I've copied and paste the first part and then as I prepared to transfer the second one, I have accidentally deleted that part. I've tried to recover it by several means and none have worked. I am heartbroken as I have worked so hard and I've put so many of my emotions and thoughts in it. As of now, I have decided to upload the first part as it was intended and mark it as ongoing not as completed. Perhaps the words will come to me again. For now, this failure, this mistake, is hitting me hard and all the self deprecation is shooting its cannons at me. Quite fitting for the Mental Health Awareness Month it's it? The irony.

This is a short story. Lun (Brent) is a teenager trying to find happiness, which seems ultimately impossible after all. However, Brent knows deep down, that this is not true (Note: This work is dedicated as a work for Mental Health Awareness Month, May.).
