At Unstable High, everyone knows two things:
One - Wemmbu and Flamefrags can't stand each other.
Two - If they're in the same room, someone should probably call a teacher.
Whether it's arguments in the hallways, trash talk during sports, or nearly throwing punches after school, the rivalry between the school's star volleyball player and football captain has become legendary. (Although Flame still hasn't lived down the one fight he lost... thanks to a very cheap kick.)
To everyone else, Wemmbu is impossible to hate for long. He's loud, cocky, reckless, always smiling, always laughing, and always pretending nothing bothers him. He's the kind of person who'll start a food fight, tease his friends until they're ready to strangle him, and somehow still end up making everyone laugh.
But smiles can lie.
Behind closed doors waits a house that never feels like home. Parents who should have divorced years ago. Bruises hidden beneath hoodies. Sleeves that stay rolled down even in summer. Nights filled with shouting... and a secret no one, not even his best friend, Eggchan, knows he's carrying.
Not even the scars.
Flame has his own problems to deal with. Between football practice, his constantly hungry older brother Mane, Lomedy's questionable advice, and Spongs making it his personal mission to annoy him every day, life's already exhausting without having to deal with Wemmbu.
Yet somehow... the more they clash, the more Flame begins noticing the cracks in the mask Wemmbu wears.
Because people can fake a smile.
They can fake confidence.
They can even fake being okay.
But the longest lies...
ALWAYS hurt the most.
