Merlin is Prince Arthur's servant like he has been for the past almost three years. However, the air between them changes gradually, and an unexpected romance is born. This is an alternate storyline where Gwen and Arthur never get married and Arthur doesn't die as young as he did. Takes place around the time period of Season 3, at a time when Morgana is evil but is still putting on the facade that she is good, but Merlin and Gaius know the truth, and Gwen is very suspicious. Arthur Pendragon had hoped to receive his Hogwarts letter after his sister, Morgana, had gotten hers at eleven, so when Arthur's birthday came and went and nothing arrived, he couldn't help but be disappointed in knowing that the closest he would get to magic was reading some of his sister's books she received from school. Until Merlin came crashing into his life, and he found a new friend with magic. Except, this magic wasn't the same as his sisters'. Merlin's eyes turned gold, and he needed no wand; not to mention the magic seemed to have connected itself to Arthur for some reason. Merlin never got his letter either, so clearly something wasn't right. As Merlin tries to learn magic on his own, the two of them find out that there are people in the world who would like nothing more than to harness Merlin's strange magic for themselves.

Claiming it's a love potion. (Although it's a lie.) The old woman says it's a curse. He will be unable to resist the one who he holds most dear... That becomes a problem when he's the crowned prince who holds a secret fondness for his servant, Merlin. His attachment to the servant is no secret. But no one, not even Merlin himself. Knows how deep the prince's feelings go. Merlin also has a secret. He was born with magic in a time where any magic is outlawed. He will be killed if he were found out. Both desperately try to hide a side of themselves from the other. Who breaks first?

After the Battle of Camlaan, Arthur and Merlin thought their troubles would be over. Morgana and the Saxons are defeated, and Arthur sits proudly on the throne with Gwen and Merlin by his side. Albion is at peace, and the citizens are happy. Hell, everyone is happy. For the first time ever, Arthur is finally starting to feel like he's done some good for Camelot. But despite the Alliance, the Pendragon House still has enemies, and Arthur soon finds himself ruling without a queen by his side and predicting things that have not come to pass. Merlin steps up in many ways, but fate can be a cruel mistress and soon a serious of events turns him against his destiny. Where is the line that he cannot cross? And how will Arthur react when he does? UPDATED AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK (I TRY FOR TWO TIMES BUT EXAMS CAN BE HELL)

A Merlin fanfiction of what could have happened in S6E1. I was so emotionally scarred by the ending of S5 that I needed to create a continuation that could heal my broken heart. I am uploading this in hopes that it may provide some comfort to those who are still not over the ending. I do not own the show or the characters and it is not for profit.
