Years passed and Merlin hasn't aged much, if at all. Memories faded and some- most- have been erased. When something calls to Arthur, the king and the warlock are reunited. Gaius, Gwen, and the remaining knights see it, and the new of Gwaine's death doesn't help anyone. Merlin becomes emotionally distant, and though he's still snarky and joking, there isn't quite that shine in his eyes. Gwen tries to grieve with him, being his closest and oldest friend, but Merlin insists that he's fine. Until he forces himself to clean Arthur's room, and the all too familiar memories he's been trying to forget come tumbling back, forcing Merlin to admit that he really isn't fine. Uther would always set up Arthur with princesses but every single time, Arthur would make up excuses to why he doesn't want to be with them. Uther then decides that he will set him up with a prince to see if he will still make excuses. Arthur was still mad when his father told him this but when he met the prince, Merlin, he said that he will give it a go. Merlin also didn't know how he felt about this considering that Camelot didn't accept magic in their kingdom. Uther was desperate to get Arthur either a prince or princess to rule with him when he dies. So, he lifts the ban on magic since he knows that Merlin isn't evil and that his kingdom is extremely strong. What will happen when they are forced to spend most of their time together and actually bond?

Merlin manages to break Sophia's enchantment on Arthur first through friendship, and then through love. As a result, Arthur remembers more than Merlin expected. Meanwhile, Morgana isn't stupid. When she sees Merlin running after Arthur, she realizes that he's the person Gaius went to find-someone who can help. Someone with magic. Set in the episode 1x07 The Gates of Avalon. Merthur.

In an AU LGBTQ+ accepting Camelot, anybody can love anybody. King Arthur throws a Ball to try and find a romantic companion among his kingdom to make his Queen or King Consort. His manservant Merlin is overrun with chores, but finds a way to attend, though he's too embarrassed to go as himself. In disguise he sets a fire in Arthur's heart, who must discover the identity of the mysterious masked man. (I do not own the characters or the photo used for the cover)

Aithusa's very excited when she learns her first words, but it only causes problems when she follows Merlin back to Camelot to share her talents with him. Especially when she won't stop flying and shouting new words that she has learned from Merlin - and when Arthur happens to witness all of it right when he wanted to get some rest after training. Merlin felt the golden light fade from his eyes as he looked to Arthur, who was standing mere meters away from him. He didn't even have to look at the King to feel the expression on his face. No sooner had he looked to the other man; Merlin had frozen on the spot. It was as if the world had stopped at their feet and that he and Arthur were the only two people standing in it. OR Merlin reveals his magic to save Arthur's life in the midst of a battle. Wracked with fear for Arthur, he runs away, and Arthur finds himself unable to let Merlin go.

Sort of an AU. It essentially follows the storyline but leaves out the whole Mordred origin story and basically his existence. A bit more complex than what you're probably used to with Merthur fics. And you know, realistic.
